The purpose of the Boys and Girls Club of Americus/Sumter Co., Inc is to promote the social, educational, health, leadership, and character development of boys and girls during critical periods of their growth. We provide after school and summer programs for youth in Sumter and Macon County.
The Boys & Girls Club of Americus/Sumter County was founded in 1997 by In 1997 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Americus/Sumter County, Inc. was founded (The 133 Wild Street Unit).
In 1999 Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn became involved with the movement; as a result, in 1999 - The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Unit opened in Plains, Georgia.
In 2002, a partnership with New Horizons Habitat for Humanity was formed and the Easter Morning Unit was opened and chartered.
In 2014, we expanded to Montezuma, GA and opened the Macon County Boys & Girls Club. This unit serves over 85 children daily in our after school program.
In 2015, we opened the Furlow Boys & Girls Club, this after school program is located at the Furlow Charter School and caters to the Furlow students.
Every day, the staff of the Boys and Girls Club of Americus/Sumter Co., Inc. strives to enhance the lives of our members through structured programming, utilizing our “Five Core” program model. The “Five Core” program areas are:
We provide a safe haven to learn and grow while simultaneously creating hope and opportunity. We foster ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, and we introduce and facilitate life –enhancing programs and character development experiences.
While our achievements are extensive, we are committed to continue aggressively expanding our services to reach more children both in and surrounding Sumter County. With the help of all the individuals, corporations, and foundations who share our beliefs in the potential of all girls and boys, regardless of their circumstances, we look to the future with great optimism.
